managed to pick the light, but the light just doubles the mesh ...so now i have mesh and mesh light and if i delete the mesh , the light looses the mesh properties...

am i missing something or am i stupid?

you need to create the vray light first. From there you can pick the mesh.
Or you can assign a vraylight material and check direct illumination, which will be same thing.

Yeah sometimes that happens, just make the mesh invisible to camera. But the light mesh is a great feature and you will find yourself using a lot for mesh light fittings ect..

right but when i pick the mesh, i get vray mesh light AND the mesh object, once i delete the mesh, the meshed light dissapears too....

...will have to try this again tomorrow when i have max open....i think the scene i was using was behaving really weird

will try it with brand new one

            From the help:
            http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/light_params.htm

"Replace mesh with light - if this option is checked when you pick the mesh it will be removed and the V-Ray mesh light will be created in its place."

Try checking that option box to see. Should replace the mesh with the light and hide the original mesh.

ive just tried all sorts of combinations

              but

i ve never managed to replace the mesh with light? how come?
do you think i should reinstal vray?

i mean..i know i can alway hide the mesh from camera but its quite silly...

What kind of object are you trying to pick?

                Best regards,

i reinstalled the whole vray....and it works, but i have to follow exactly this procedure:

                  - create the mesh light dummy
                  - deselect it
                  - create the mesh object
                  - select the mesh light dummy
                  - pick the mesh object with the "replace" checked

any other diffrent way doesnt allow the mesh object to dissappear.

i ve noticed that with the previous vray install, i was getting some MaxScript errors upon opening Max.....there is a slight possibility that the SP2 uninstaller left something behind that was conflicting with SP3???? just my guess

great thing is that its sorted now ))))

                  Thank you guys!
