  • Preparing tone operator (Crash)

    Hi

Have been rendering a scene with no problems.
Suddenly when I try to render it, when Vray starts its calculations it starts with "Preparing tone operator" Thats as far as it gets and then Max crashes.

    Max Design 2009 64bit
    Vray 1.5 SP3

Very simple scene, no RPC's, just models with basic shaders.

Any reason why this is happening.
I save incremently and if I open the previouse saved file, then it renders fine.
Is it just a corrupt file? Though strange it just suddenly becomes corrupt.
    Any help, be appreciated.

    Cheers
    Derek

Someone else reported a similar problem too; I think the solution was to switch to the scanline renderer and then back to V-Ray. In any case, if you can me the broken scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com it will be very helpful.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

This happened to me as well and as far as I remember the problem had to do with region render in the Vray FB, the scene crashed as I was doing this and then when I reopened it would crash at this stage. What solved it for me was to switch to the max VFB, then it wouldn't crash (it would crash again if I tried the vray FB) but I was on a real hurry to get it done so maybe going to scanline and back would also fix it.

edit: Just to check this out I re-opened the file that used to crash like this and hit render using the vray vfb and now it doesn't crash at all! No idea what's going on now.

I'm having the exact same problem as well, without any clear indication why.

edit: switching back and forth between scanline and vray seemed to work.

any resolution to this? I am on 3ds MAX 2011 and V-Ray SP5. I am working on a very simple scene with an HDRI V-Ray light and a default V-Ray material override.

I'm not sure - can you get me the scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com?

            Best regards,
