  • What is killing my Glossy Reflections?

    Hi -

When my rendering gets to it's final rendering pass, my glossy reflections and specularity take a tremendous hit.

Everything looks ok visually with the samples on the pre passes (building light cache, etc.) But during the final rendering the nice looking glossies get muted to a rather dull version of their previous strength - perhaps a quarter of the glossy level I see in the pre passes.

    Any ideas?

          I found the problem.

I'm using Solid Rocks and it was automatically turning on "Store with Irradiance Maps" on my area light - killing my specular.

                  hi, same here:
there is a light, that only affects specularity above the lava stream.
when i use "store with irradiance map" in the light, the speculars are ignored.

                    Hi,

are you using Irradiance map for rendering or Brute Force?

If using BF then no speculars and no light with this option turned on is visible in the image I think...

This is to be expected; only the diffuse contribution of the lights is stored with the irradiance map and any hilights will be ignored in this case. Only reflections will be visible.

                          Best regards,
                          Vlado
