  • normal map +SSS2

    Can anyone confirm that normal maps are working properly with the SSS2 material? For me it is rendering, but with odd buckets. Looks almost like a DR problem, but it happens for me even when rendering without DR.

    Probably me, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong....

    Have you tried with the VRayNormalMap?

      I must have missed that map before - I hadn't seen it, but it did the trick.

        I'm still having some trouble with this actually. Am I supposed to use the VrayNormal map *instead* of the Max Normal Bump, or can it be used inside of the Normal Bump, sort of like the VrayBitmapFilter?

        It seems to be a bit hit or miss right now either way

          It should be used instead of the 3ds Max one... what is your base geometry?

            don't mean to hijack this thread, but if the VrayNormalMap is a replacement for max's "Normal Bump" map, how does one apply bump mapping and normal mapping when using the VrayNormalMap?

              You use VRayCompTex in "Add" mode for this.

                I wondered about that too - thanks. I am using this on a subdivided plane with a noise and shell modifier to test out some snow materials. Nothing fancy. I am getting the problem intermittently, but can't figure out why yet. If I can't get it sorted I will email you a file.
