Yes - only in 3ds Max 2010 though.

and if it's the case, how do I get the sp3a to try that ?
V-Ray for 3ds Max 2010 is available from the download section on the site.

      great news.

but I have just install max 2010 and vray sp3a and I couldn't obtain a licence.
Do I have to put the vray sp3a on the server to have the licence working? The licence of nomal sp3 isn't enough ?

      Best Regards

Thanks. Im on subscription, so I can try the regular 2010. I am looking forward to testing this.
Also, I am Really impressed with the quality/speed of the Vray shadow maps. I use them for things like grass (and hopefully hair). They are lightining quick and look fantastic.

I have tried with a different scenes and came with the conclusion that when max touch the 3Go of ram it crash, simple close without saying anything.

The only way I have make it work is by using the VFB and unchecked the "Render to memory frame buffer" and lowering the memory limit. The lowest I have done is 400Mo (default) and highest is 800 Mo. High max crash.
My scene test here was with a spider that we have done for a old ad. and that have 958.200 fur. I'm just below the 3Go of ram with that technique and it render fin, but only 1 core is used on the 4 available.
                    Any tip for that ?

Have tried with a simple sphere with 1Million and it was working, but at 1.5 Million Fur it crashed too.

I imagine that it's the 86x problem because it's relying with 3Go ram problem, I hope this will work fin with the 64 bit version.

Am I doing something wrong ?

anyway, some news about when the final release of max 2010 64x will be out.

Builds of V-Ray for 3ds Max 2010, both 32- and 64-bit versions are available from our site.

makes me wonder...if it crashes in Max Design and is ok in Max Regular......then...where is the truth in their statement that

Max Design = Max Regular - Lighting analysis

Pile of bullshit in my opinion.

Hehe, I've been wondering the same... then again, there are some differences in the configuration (.ini files, defaults and such) of the two flavors, even if the code is the same.

                          Best regards,

Yes, to avoid the crash, you can do the following:

Go to Customize > Custom UI and Defaults Switcher... and select one of the "Max" presets ("MAX.vray", "Max" etc, not a "Design" one) and restart 3ds Max. Hair&Fur should render fine then.

It looks like one of the options in the defaults preset causes the crash, but we haven't had time to figure out which one yet.

                                Best regards,
                                Vlado
