Has anyone found Vray to perform much slower with displacements in 2010?

My assumption is how 2010 handles the loaded bitmaps, as one scene that rendered fine in 2009 was using a 7,000 res TIFF for siding, in 2D mode but in 2010 it would hang at the "loading instances of ....whatever...." process of preloading scene for render.

I reduced the bitmap to 1200 resolution, used 3D disp. and now it loads fine, but seemingly takes much longer to render. I tried that command mentioned in a previous thread, with no success.

Granted I need to do more testing, but it seems to lay with 2010.

there is already another thread going around the forum. Max 2010 has bitmap pager enabled by default vs other older max versions had it disabled. That causes the slowdown.

I forgot to mention I tired that command, and it made no difference.

You need to save and re-load the scene after that command (best to re-start 3ds Max too). However, even with that command, speed is not quite the same as in previous 3ds Max versions. Nothing much to do about that on our side, I'm afraid.

The difference is in the code in 3ds Max that handles texture maps.

Yeah.. just use the "extra time" you get from Autodesk
              to enjoy the new UI....
