  • Colours different in frame buffer and saved files

    hi
i've been having an issue with images displaying differently in the vray frame buffer than they do when they're saved as jpgs.

    here is a screengrab:

the image on the left is the saved .jpg and the one on the right is the frame buffer.

anyone know what might be causing this?

the scene has a gamma 2.2 in max and vray

monitor profile problem, either delete the monitor icc profile from the windows color settings,
or assign the monitor profile to the bitmap, for example with photoshop.

You might want to try a "proper" image view like xnview or ifran view instead of the silly vista one.

well, the vista one is actually "correct", since it's color managed, as opposed to the 3dsmax vfb.
the problem is, that 3dsmax stores bitmaps without color profile. windows assumes then, that the bitmap is in the default srgb space, instead of the monitor color space.

the solution is dumping the monitor profile and using srgb for everything, or attaching the correct icc profile (better solution, if the monitor was properly calibrated)

What happens if client doesn't have your monitor ICC profile? Or does it get embeded in the file? But again client will also just use the "vista viewer" to look at the file.
