  • Dongle Problems

We experience some dongle Problems, lately.

Our Setup looks like this. We have 3 Dongles, each is attached to a workstation.
The Render Slaves use these 3 Workstations as License Server. This workes well
so far. Now the last time it happens more and more often, that I´m doing test
renderings local and suddenly it says "Could not find a license".
As far as I can say, this happens when a network rendering is active.
As soon as it stops, I can render again on my local
machine. Actually most of the time, Network renderings are active
and we can work on our local machines. This problem appears infrequently.

Got similar problems here with windows 2003 at work. Never happen at home with windows 2008 r2 (win7). But restarting service helps. I found this problem usually occurs when doing lots of small renderings (to tweak smth f.e.). So it looks like render-cancel render-cancel...
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

Which V-Ray version are you using? We did some changes to SP3/SP3a to hopefully make this more stable.

      Best regards,

Where do you get this error? In the V-Ray messages window?

            Best regards,

Do you have the KB number for that update?

                I´m on XP32/Max2008/Sp3. I somehow missed Sp3a. I will give it a try.
Today this problem happens very often. It seems to happen just in
that specific scene. No network renderings are going on at the moment.
I start max, create some objects render with Vray and everything works fine.
I open that scene. A pretty heavy scene
with a lot of CAD Data but nothing Vray can´t handle. I can open the material editor
and all materials show up. When I hit render it say´s "can´t optain license". When I reset the
scene without restarting max. Everything works fine again.
I remember a scene some month ago, wich would give me the same error when i merged
some very high poly trees into the scene.
But first of all I will install Sp3a.

(I did not make any Windows updates recently)

Sorry for the delay, the problem was gone until yesterday.
The log file just says "Could not find license.... (0)".
I´m not sure at the moment if it´s Vray problem or a problem with
my Workstation. Everytime Vray looses its license, I get disconnected
from my local network paths and the explorer will crash.
I´m not sure if an error in my systems causes Vray to loose the license
or Wibu crashes my systems. So far I experienced these system crashes
only after Vray lost it´s license.

The problem was gone since the last time i posted in this thread.
I had several projects the last weeks, without any problems. Since yesterday
the problem is back an happens every 15min. it´s really really annoying !
It doesn´t seem to be a problem with my network card, as other workstations
have the same problem, too. At the moment I´m running into the following.
I want to import/merge Trees from Evermotion. Every second tree I´m importing
crashes my Vray License with "Error Obtaining License 0". It´s gone when I save the scene
and reload it without restarting max or the Vray license Server... until I import the next
tree. No idea what could be done about it ? This is really time consuming !
