  • Surface noise problem

    Hi all

Got this noise problem on a project that I haven't had in many years. It's sort of surface/shadow noise that is some what different then the ordinary irradience splotches. I can compensate for the problem by cranking up the subdivs a lot more than usual, with very long rendertimes as a result. Any ideas on other settings to tweak?

(Vray 1.5 SP2 on Max 2009. Scene in cm 1:1)

    Thanks from Chris

It is probably from the VRayLights; try increasing the subdivs value for them.

Increasing the light subdivs to about 50-60 gives the same amount of noise that I normally get in a scene with 16-20 subdivs on the lights :P something strange is going on here!

Bigger lights than usual ? or closer than usual ?

A stripped down scene with only the lights and boxes would help..

You have glossy surfaces - use adaptive dmc and increase glossy subdivs on 'em. Also you may try to rise the AA to smth like 1/8 + increase subdivs to smth like 35 (materials and lights).
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?
