Need a little help here. I've got this wood sample to replicate: http://www.sarasotarockers.com/woodg...eleSapele.html

Having a very difficult time with it. Here's my current attempt:

Diffuse: Regular Wood map mixed with toned down version of this
Reflect: Same as above but a the color of the highlight
Reflection Glossiness: Desaturated, high contrast version of the wood

Its just not popping like I'd like it to.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

The turbulence fractal type could possibly help.

Forget the diffuse and anything else and dick around with noise in the anistropic direction slot. Once that's right, the rest should be straight forward.

might be possible to map your shader to a large plane, and then use a noise or something in the bump map slot. Then render that out and use it as your diffuse minus the bump.

I'm posting some images over on the Images forum with the new wood material. I ended up using a high contrast B&W version of the wood sample I had in the Anisotropic slot. VERY helpful. Learned a new technique. Lets see where else I can use that!

              Thanks for all the suggestions

I'd ease abit down on the contrast. It kinda looks like bad jpeg compression
