  • Render wont start - Max 2010, Vray 150SP3a

Im having problems with my model, yesterday everything was working fine. But now the scene wont render.

The scene started life as a Max design 2009 model, but i thought 2010 would be worth a try, Big mistake. After working on the model for a day with no problems i came back the following day and now the scene wont render.

Clicking the render button does nothing, the vray frame buffer does not appear, nor does the render progress dialogue. Literatly nothing happens.

I have tried changing gfx drivers, reverting to open gl, opening bak files. The file wont even open in 2009 now!

how can i solve or debug this? any ideas would be great.

It actually doesn't sound like a 'bug', but more of an issue that you upgraded, saved, and made the file incompatible with older versions.

Do any of the other buttons in the UI work? I've had this issue from time to time where 3ds Max would start normally but none of the toolbar buttons or menus work. Closing and starting 3ds Max usually fixes this for me.

All other UI buttons are fine, on a possibly related note, when pressing the button for the max frame buffer toggle it seems to take a while to load. Also when right clicking for the vray frame buffer nothing happens.

I really need to find a way to either render in 2010 or open in 2009.

i have just exported as FBX and opened ok in 2009, but the scene wont save because it is corrupt!

You can try to reassign V-Ray as the current renderer (e.g. switch to scanline and then back to V-Ray).

Also check the V-Ray log file (by default c:\vraylog.txt) for any useful information.

          Best regards,

This is really bizzare, i had a recovered version of the scene rendering!

Then after reading the above post i re-opened an older one that was not working before, it rendered!! Then going back to the previous version that was working now it has the same fault and nothing happens. It seems like an intermittant fault, that may not be scene specific.

Back to your previous post vlado, re-assigning vray makes no difference. However both scanline and MR have the same fault, ie. wont render at all.

In terms of the log file im not sure what to look for...i could attach it?
