Error message: collecting scene materials

Could anyone tell me what the error message means exactly on the attachment, as I have never seen it before.

Maybe you have some bad material (max raytrace with strange settings) or a corrupt scene, try and remerge it in a new one to see if it fixes it.

Thanks Lele, did exactly that, opened xRef'd scenes, re-saved and voila! Never seen that message before though?
