DR Spawner = slow typing

I noticed the other day that if I try to type anything on a machine with the DR spawner just running (i.e. not rendering) it's insanely slow - as in 1 character per second appearing on screen. The minute I exit the spawner, it's fine.

It doesn't seem to affect anything else performance wise (that I've noticed), but it's very frustrating.

Running Max 2010, Vray 1.5 sp3a, 64bit Vista Pro.

Any suggestions?

This started with 3ds Max 2009 I think; the work-around is to register the V-Ray spawner as a Windows service and run it that way (so that the 3ds Max process started by the spawner cannot interact with the desktop).

Are there still issues with the DR not rendering buckets consistently when using the service? I was advised to not use the service option before, but maybe that was only with Max 2008?

The differences typically happened because by default the service is running with a default system user, and may fail to find the necessary texture maps. It is best to let the spawner service run with your normal user login, so that it can use all the mapped drives etc. that you normally use also.

So if I'm using UNC paths and not using mapped drives anymore, it should be fine in any case?

It might not be ok if the shared folders that you are using have access permissions specifically set for some users only.
