  • Unhandled Exception src\globalummap.ccp.line: GloballllumMap::buildLightMap()(2.1)

Hi I tried to render a scene and Vray stops at the Light cache.

Vray message: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Rendering frame Last marker is at .\src\globalummap.ccp.line: GloballllumMap::buildLightMap()(2.1)

I had previously been region rendering on a 3000x 2500 image. I dropped size down to 800x600 for a quick test, but did not turn off region render. Vray then started giving me the above message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to start working my way back through increment saves to see if problem goes away.

    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers
    Derek

Did you use the region render button in the V-Ray VFB? Does it render if you turn this off?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I used the region render in the larger image. 3000x2500
I then reduced the render size to 800x600, to do a quick test.
I forgot to turn of the region render button and hit render.
Vray adjusted the render size and then the crash occured.
I have to restart max. It freezes
Same thing happens again when I reopen file and try render again (region render is then off)

In that case would be best if you can get me the scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can check what's going on.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

            Morning Vlado

I solved the problem, I just switched to the scanline renderer and then back to Vray, so Vray was set to all its defaults. It renders fine now.

            Thanks

            Derek

              The same here, pretty often...

              http://screencast.com/t/pWUgZhBrT

So when I turn off the VFB, it runs well and if I re turn O the VFB it's another time bugged.
The only way to use the VFB with this scene, but it's pretty often the case on our scene since we switched to the SP3, is to use a brute force instead of Light Cache in secondary bounces.

And it crashes the scene by the way.
Is there any solution to avoid this ?

It seems to be more like a DR issue; I am looking at a similar problem now.

                Best regards,

Thank you Vlado, but before you dive deeper in the code, here one of my co worker just said me he already got the bug in LOCAL rendering without using the DR... If it could help you

Yes, now if you can get me the scene, it will help even more

You can email it to vlado@chaosgroup.com; if the scene is too big, we can also arrange ftp upload.

                          Best regards,

                            Vlado

I have something similar, max crashes at:
"Last marker is at .\src\vrayrenderer.cpp, line 2289: Preparing direct light manager".

Some sort of low memory issue? When I render high res max crashes, when I render low res its gone. If I turn off render elements it helps, but doesn't fix things.

I've had similar before max 2010, deleting render elements helped then too, but didn't fix the issue.

Just had the same unhandled exception as in the original post.

Was also rendering a large image, 3000x2000, used region render in de VFB.
Saved the file and closed max. Later opened the file, lowered resolution to 1000x667, tried to render, then it threw the exception. The region render button was still active, but couldn't disable/or see it before rendering, since the VFB can't be opened unless a first render is done.

When I first started a render at 3000x2000 and cancelled it as soon as VFB showed up, I could disable the region render, lower resolution and render fine again.

                              Hope this helps.
