  • Noise in reflection and artifact in shadow detail

    Hi all

As you can see in my attached pic I'm getting some noise on my couch's "leather" material in reflection. Also on my dado there are 2 narrow shadow lines of about 7mm high by about 7mm deep. The further away you go from the window towards the right, the more noisy or artifactly (artifacty) it becomes. Scene is only lit with VRSun and Sky and with sun position 12:00 directly above. Using VRCam to expose. LWF. I have also tried the old way with a huge VRLight in the window but get same result.

In GI I have AO switched on on 0.5, 1000mm, 40 subs.
    IR on Medium preset.
LC 500 subs with use lc for glossy switched on.
AA Sampler: Adaptive DMC min 1 max 10 clr thres 0.01 use dmc unticked
DMC Sampler adaptive 0.95, noise thresh 0.005

Any Suggestions to fix the noise on the couch and bring out the detail in the dado? Any other suggestions also welcome.

You gotta lower your adaptive from .01

The sampling will stop subdividing to soon otherwise. Even if you use 1-100 if your threshold is .01 it might not go over 4 or 6.

Do some test bringing it down to .005 then .003 and bring your samples up as well a step at a time. You should check out Chris Nichols at http://gnomonology.com/tutorial/62

Its only 12/bucks so its worth it.

That's exactly what I would have typed! And the tutorial is v good. My workflow is based on it!

thanks guys. I lowered it to .003 and it sorted the reflection noise. The problem with the dado turned out to be that when I added some vertices to it (on left view), I forgot to check that they are in line with the existing ones. After I fixed the geometry all was fine.
