  • max 2010 freezing after Vray installation

after installing Vray, max 2010 hangs on the load screen. once i unistall, it runs fine again. redownload, reinstall VRAY, same thing happens... freeze on Max load. it initializes, says plug ins loaded, then it hangs on "starting 3ds max" screen. I cant find anyone online that is having this same issue. any thoughts?? thanks,

    Chris

Could be having problems loading into a certain graphics mode - opengl or dx. Did you try installing the latest graphics drivers?

windows vista 32 is the OS, and the copy of max is brand new out of the box. it runs max perfectly without vray installed, so i also doubt that it would be the video drivers. its 100% repeatable when i install vray 1.50sp3a, it hangs, when i unistall it, it doesnt. i never had a problem with 1.5sp2 and max 2009... i even unstalled both of those programs to be sure it wasnt a conflict of some sort. im lost haha, thanks.

Did you set up the V-Ray licensing information properly? This could be the time when V-Ray tries to connect to the license server. In any case, even if so, it should continue after some time (maybe up to a minute).

          Best regards,

Yeah what Vlado said. I thought to suggest to just let it hold for a while and see if it loads still. Sometimes when my license is not configured right, my max also holds if vray is set as a current renderer. Thought, it holds during max open ui. But thats not max 2010.

              thank you all

Thank you all for your responses, and making me think of drivers.. it was a driver confliction with the Wacom Tablet Intous4. Today, Max would not work without VRay installed, so i unistalled the wacom driver and now it works fine with max 2010 and vray! I dont get it, but ill live without the wacom for now to have vray back haha. It may be a conflict with my Vaio laptop, but thanks again.

                vista ...
you probably dont need to uninstall the driver. Just stop the service, and run max, then if you need a tablet just manually launch it.
