I have a question about upgrading VRAY in our environment...any help would be great...
-The environment used runs Windows XP (and Windows 2003 servers in a render farm). Both use 64 bit versions of the operating systems and applications. We tried to install 3dsmax 2010 on 64 bit Windows XP client workstations but encountered license errors and are therefore planning to upgrade the VRAY version from 1.50.sp2 to 1.5 sp3a on the license server. The license server is a Windows 2000 32 bit server.
- The reason for the new version of VRAY on the Windows 2000 license server is to allow users to install 3dsmax 2010 on the Windows XP 64 bit clients and possibly the Windows 2003 servers in the farm at a later time? Will installing the 1.5 sp3a version of VRAY (license only) into an existing 3dsmax 2009 install on the license server enable the installation of 3dsmax 2010 on the XP 64 bit machines? Does anything else need to be done with the dongles? Will the existing licenses continue to work?
-I noticed that the dongle needs to be removed from the computer so that the drivers for the dongle can be installed when doing a clean install.
Does doing the upgrade of VRAY from 1.50.sp2 to 1.5 sp3a on the license server require any special handling?
Here's the error message we get in 3dsmax 2010:
"Could not obtain a licence (-7): Unrecognized license server response (old license server version?)"
