  • aghhh, am at breaking point XP64 VRAY mat lib so F^% slow

sorry for the expletives but I am at the end of my F$%^&ing tether on this.

    Am running XP pro 64 bit, MAX 2009 64 SP1, Vray 1.5 SP2, Kasperski AV, q6600, 4gb Ram.

Material editor is sooo slow to load, hangs for about 5 mins at a time, between that and autosaves about 1/2 time is wasted. I have restarted the lic and thats a hit and miss, I am using a demo verios on other pc on 32 bit, half the ram, spec and it flies on that pc.
This has been going on for ages now and just about to put my fist through the screen.
Have shyed away from installing 2010 for fear of other issues,

What can I do to resolver this once and for all.
    Thanks,
    Angry Tom

Is the USB dongle on the local machine or remote? The only time I've had issues with the ME, 2008 though, under XP64 was when I was accessing it remotely.

        Angry Tom,
It does sound like a license issue.
Try with the dongle on your local machine and see if that helps.

Dongle is in back of XP 64 machine, has been there since I got it.
I did recall soemone else having this issue ad the solution was to shut licence and restart, it still crawls for me, insult to injury is that this pc (when new)+ expensive software cost a tidy sum, will try sp3A tomorrow, meanwhile I gonna break heads and unwind.

            Slow Editor

This was an issue for me, but that was awhile back. I am not sure if it was upgrading vray or turning off the cube.

Odd. It still seems to be a license issue. Thought number 2.

How do you have your Vray client license settings setup? Only as localhost? I think I've put the localhost name and IP address under the alternate license servers.

If you update to V-Ray SP3, is the issue still there?

                Best regards,

ok, just upgraded to SP3, still there, ME took a minute to load.
Lic was setup using defaults and on the local machine,

sea2stars: can you explain please, "localhost" goes into the alt. lic server 1? and the pc's ip address" goes into alt. lic server 2?

Even after I hit render it seems to stall for a minute or two before the LC starts to be calc'd

one thing that could be happening is that it loads in basic vray mats quickly but if there is anything a bit more complex like brushed steel it really struggles to load. Not much comfort it the scene uses heavy mats.
Is there anything in log file that is of any use
                  Regards,
                  T

the only time I get slow material editor is when VRay cant find a license, usually because hamachi has dropped or all the licenses are being used.

Try setting up you license settings as just "localhost" with port "30304"

Dumb question time, Are you sure that the license server is actually running? and have you added an exception in to your firewall/antivirus for it?

just had a thought, how are your bitmaps pathed?
                          UNC or mapped drives?

still the same , trust me it really mucks up your workflow

UNC, but what I did with a recent project was archive it so everything was local, also the issue happens on mats that may have no bitmaps appled just procedurals, to be honest its a F^&%^ing disaster.

It probably won't help, but worth a shot I suppose.
