  • VRay Proxies - Strange stuff

    We are having 2 problems with our proxied people;

    1. They are rendering sporadically with black sections randomly over parts of the texture map

    2. In the scene they are standing on the gepometry but, when rendered - they are about 2 feet above it.

    Has anyone encountered this before?

    Thanks

    Which V-Ray version are you using? Also, are you using distributed rendering?

    Best regards,
    Vlado
    I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

      I am using the current VRay 1.70 64bit for Max 2009 and we are using BackBurner not DR.

        have you tried rendering on one pc (not on backburner) to see if it's a network/map access issue?
        hmm, not sure about the floating issue. i had a problem before with a tree i was using as a proxy, when i replaced it with a different tree it was in a diiferent relative position. i think it could have been to do with the object axis or position in scene when exporting to proxy mesh.

              I used to get this problem when we had a file server running normal windows with the 10 machine connection limit - it'd drop texture maps when some machines were trying to access it. What's your file server running on?

                Ok, got a bit mixed up there - when the BB Server starts a vray job, it says that it is VRay version DLL 1.70.00.

                Anyway, the problem with the levitating people is a DR issue - it is completely messed up but that is another thread.

                The main problem is the patches of random blackness on the animated people proxies.

                All maps are correctly UNCed and it would be easier to understand if the entire textures were missing - but its just parts of the texture.

                Our file server is running on Windows XP Pro 64 bit.

                  Looks similar to when happens when you put an edit poly over the proxy, but i'm not sure if doing that leaves the maps in place.

                    Ok - the solution to get rid of the black bits;

                    Untick 'Check Sample Visibility' in the Irrad Map rollout.

                    Can't believe that caused me so much hassel.
