  • Vray ghosts

I've recently run into this problem a few times I am using my machine and two nodes through dr to render this image. When rendered without the nodes checked, it renders fine, but when it renders with the nodes I get this problem and it ONLY occurs when using xref scenes. I've got my proxies xref'd in and the building/site xref'd in. Cameras and lights are all in the working file.

Also note that this does not happen with every project that I work on. Only occasionally and I don't see any pattern here.

I'm running Vray sp3a in Max Design 2010 with two new packs installed.

    Anybody else seen this?
Feel free to make this your new wallpaper.

I hope not. They kind of remind me of the demon faces / ghosts in exorcism of Emily Rose....creepy.

have you ever rendered anything that looks like fluids in the past?
Im wondering if the DR slaves are rendering from an old scene file and not the one you are sending it possibly because of a network problem.

Nope, nothing even close to what it's showing in that image. Very strange.

            very strange indeed.
Its not like a wallpaper image on your desktop is it? My new thinking is that its a graphics card issue

Nope, black is what's on my desktop.

The key here is that when I uncheck DR with xref's it works fine....then, if I check DR with xref's it doesn't work and it renders as shown in the image above. If there are no xref's then it renders fine either way.

              Doesn't seem graphic card-ish to me...hrm.

              Thanks for your replies.

what happens when you render that xref on the DR slave through backburner?

In that case it renders fine because it's only one computer on it at a time...it's something with the way it's handling certain xref's....It may be a max issue?

I was just having a bizarre issue last night with 3ds Max 2011 and VRay SP5 and discussing it with Jason this morning it sounded like it may have been related to this issue.

Anybody see something like this before? I managed to get it to go away through a combination of resetting the perspective correction, copying the camera and enabling perspective correction again and for good measure merging the xref's & disabling DR... I *think* it's a corruption of the camera from the persp correction but I can't explain why it goes away. Thoughts?

i think your camera corrections might be bending reality a little too much
