could not obtain license

  • could not obtain license

    Just got a "could not obtain license" with a (-209) in front of it.
    Was working on a small object at around 4000 poly's, it just started
    taking longer for the render to start, with each render, then that
    message came up.

    Did a restart, all seems well though now I think I know why I was
    getting time intervals between the click on render button and
    anything happening on a project I am working.

    win xp 32 bits, max 2009, vray sp3a, network wasn't being used at
    all, the vray license server is on the same machine.

    Should I be worried, is it gonna flip out on me? On a deadline here.

    Now I get "could not obtain license" with a (0) code, could someone please share any info on this?

      What do you see in the license server web page? You can try to restart the license server just in case.

          Getting the (0) thing again at random, hours apart now, gets more and more annoying by the error message.

            I think the dongle needs to be replaced after all; would be best to email us to vray@chaosgroup.com to arrange that.

                Could you elaborate on that Vlado? I emailed Chaos the other day as I have a similar dongle problem (could not obtain license -9). Chaos said I had to speak to my supplier (vismasters), who say I will have to ship it back to them and pay the costs BOTH ways, I will also have to wait the indeterminate time required for the postal service to do it's thing twice. In the mean time I have no license! Not great when your trying to run a business in hard times.

                If the dongles have a known fault why is it the customer that is having to stump up the cash and inconvenience to sort out this problem?

                  Just wondering how many others out there have had problems with the dongle license drop and if they have had a replacement and how log it took, or are (like me) waiting until they can find the time when they don't NEED the dongle to do some work and then send it off hoping it'll come back before the next job needs starting.

                  Vlado - there was once a software license solution, pre-dongle, would it be possible to do something like that whilst the dongle is away to avoid any down-time?
