  • Material with disabled maps eating memory

I noticed a scene was going crazy with memory usage and couldn't work out why, as all my maps being used were reasonable resolution.
I eventually tracked down the culprit to a rogue VrayCompText map with HDRI map as a sub-map which had been copied through a number of my materials, but with the checkbox unticked (so theoretically not being loaded/used)...

Is there a way for vray to ignore maps that are not switched-on to mimimize memory wastage? or is this, as I expect, an inefficiency within 3dsmax ?

    p.
    Many Thanks

    might be a memory problem.
try deleting the proxies from the scene and see if the error still occurs.

Yep I fixed the problem already, removing those maps that weren't being used fixed the problem. I just thought I should raise the issue that memory was being wasted on maps that weren't activated.
