  • DR Problems in 2010-64

I'm running into this error quite often here since updating to max2010 and sp3a

[2009/Sep/8|13:06:21] error: Error receiving DR scene (0), closing DR session
    [2009/Sep/8|13:06:21] warning: Failed to delete server scene file "C:\Documents and Settings\render\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2009 - 64bit\enu\temp\vray_server_scene.max" (32)
which seems to correspond to the log in the attached image on the local host machine

I've been having problems as both a Service (with domain login) and run as an EXE

When i went to the folder to see whats in there, its a file from 9/4/09.. (I'm guessing thats the last time it worked.) I was able to manually delete it, and am testing the render again.

[2009/Sep/8|14:09:52] Receiving DR scene from 172.18.122.188

[2009/Sep/8|14:10:42] error: Error receiving DR scene (0), closing DR session

    [2009/Sep/8|14:10:42] warning: Failed to delete server scene file "C:\Documents and Settings\render\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsMax\2010 - 64bit\enu\temp\vray_server_scene.max" (32)
I browse to the temp folder on that machine, and it looks like it tried to copy the file, but failed partway through it may have failed? In that temp folder is the file with the same date/time as i had sent, but it has a smaller filesize (Working scene=99mb, scene in temp folder=79mb)

These current tests are with the executable version. will keep adding info here as i attempt to debug.

to add a little more weight to the failure to transfer side of things, another machine has the same timestamp, and a file at 58mb, and yet another at.. 55mb

      Curious.

Things are currently working just fine with max 2009-64 and sp3a (Edit: fixed to read 2009.)

I guess to add even more fun to it, theres 1 machine that is working fine. with the only difference being that its a mac pro bootcamped into windows. (lol)

yes actually, my bad, I had meant to say it was working fine in max 2009-64bit! all previous jobs are set up to use 2009

Its got to be some sort of network or timeout type issue? as using less machines works fine (IE: using 3 machines will work, while using 5 will not.. ?!)

Does it work with a simple scene?

            Best regards,

It does work with a simple scene.

I think it may have been a cpu/ram issue now, as i adjusted the scene to use a few more proxys and a few less large bitmaps to reduce the ram usage and the problem went away, even while the filesize has continued to grow (Its hanging at about 130mb currently)

You could try to use the "compress on save" option for the .max files; it usually helps.

Same problem here ( Max 2010 x64 ). All worked fine few days ago though.
Compress on save doesn't help. Could that be caused by slow network connection ?
