  • Network Rendering with 3ds Max and Design(2010)

Hey, I'm having a bit of trouble network rendering.

My problem is that my company has 3ds Max Design 2010 installed on some computers and 3ds Max 2010 installed on others(both the 32 bit versions). My project involves a rather large animation of an industrial machine and is about ready for test rendering, but I run across a problem when I try to network render.

The problem is(im using backburner): Jobs submitted from 3ds Max will only render without error on other computers with 3ds Max installed, and jobs submitted with 3ds Max Design will only render without error on other computers with 3ds Max Design installed. To solve this problem, I simply installed both softwares on every computer(only for rendering purposes... we don't have enough licenses for a workstation of both of every computer). However, on each computer V-ray can only be installed once to either one of the softwares but not both(if i try to install V-ray again for the other software, I have to uninstall the original installation of V-ray first). This is a problem because my co-workers use only Max design, whereas the computer I work on only has Max(all of our computers are workstations).

Is there a way to install V-ray twice on one computer, once to 3ds Max and once to 3ds Max Design?

We had the same problem. There is a way to install VRay on both Max and Design - http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...ad.php?t=45945 ... However, for us we found it much easier to just crossgrade our Max licenses into Design and standardize on the single platform...

If you really want to do both - keep in mind that every time VRay gets an update you'll need to install it on both versions on all computers on the network, and any other plugisn will need dual installs, scripts will need dual installs - it seems like too much hassle to me.

    Good luck,

Thanks a lot for the help =). Will try it out asap. Unfortunately, Im only an intern here and nobody else speaks English in my company(Japanese company) so I doubt I'll have much influence in trying to crossgrade our licenses. Will pass on the message though
