  • Vray proxies with opacity mapped surfaces - ridiculous rendertimes

    Hello all,

Quick question, just to make sure were not doing anything wrong, or whether this is a known fact.

We ve got like 40 instanced proxies of evermotion trees with opacity mapped leaves.

Calc methid id IM/LC and only the LC by itself is calculation like 29 hours to render a 1000px wide frame!!!!

    Whats wrong? anone encountered this?
There is not even a translucency on the leaves.

PLease help, weve tried almost everything...Vlado?

    Best regards

PS: we can also do this with forest pack but i doubt it would be any different rendertime wise since its instanced proxies by both methods.

i know ive done it on a good way...each tree is proxied and then the proxies r instanced...so its not like a 1GB proxy file

make sure that the bitmaps used in the opacity maps have filtering turned off, that makes a huge difference in render times.

yeah weve turned off the filtering but that was not it
ita was the low mem setting in vray system rollout
        we had it to 400MB/Auto
so ive changed it to 2000MB/Auto and its a different story now
so it looks like problem solved here

aaa, yes, I see. you can go even higher, if you have more memory installed. 400 mb as default doesn't make much sense anymore, considering how often proxies are used these days, and how cheap ram has become.

right ..i have 8GB...if i raise it to 8GB then, wont i run out of memory?

Raise it to 6.5, that should do the trick.

What are the times/RAM usage rendering the 40 trees not as proxies but as instanced meshes?

we ve got over 300 trees in the scene...so i have to use proxys otherwise i run out of RAM.....

                    Janosik:
since vray is dynamic object, then by setting to AUTO, vray will automatically decide whether to use static or dynamic or not?

What's the average resolution of the leaves from Evermotion?
