  • artefacts in pillar

hi, i can`t get rid of the artefacts in the pillar in the image below.
i made it with lathe, tried to check and uncheck all checkboxes there, but the artefacts stay.
tried auto smooth on the pillar, no sucess.
the material is a simple vraymaterial without refl.
    very thankfull for suggestions

Did you use irradiance map? Looks like irradiance map splotchiness to me. Try and up your settings and the HSphere subs and Interpolations samples and see whether that helps.

...or could it be mesh related?

if so, i had the same issues regarding an imported mesh, a lot of tips and suggestions were made here:

in my case nothing worked, but you might have more luck than i did

Is it possible that there are double faces in that area? Try setting the secondary rays bias to a small positive value (like 0.001) and see if it helps.

        Best regards,

thanks for your replies, and sorry for answering that late. i forgot to subscribe to the thread...(would be fine if the started threads would be subscribed automatically)
found a workaround in the meanwhile. in lathe i take 359 instead of 360 degrees and the artefacts are gone. i have no idea why the 360° cause the artefacts.

            maybe not welded
Option weld if I correct remember is present.I suppose if u use 360 degrees and use not weld option in lathe command maybe the two faces inside the element lathed go on the same plane so artifacts are produced.
Abyway u solved but maybe for the next time could be a solution use weld to majke the inside profile that generates polygon to lathe doesn' t finish on the same plane of the last polygon rounded on vertical axes
            Bye
