  • DR - slaves slow to start whitout LC caching

    Hi everyone,

    here is my problem :

I render an interior scene using Irradiance/LightCache with DR on several salves and there is a strange behaviour :

    - if I don't use any Irr or LC map saving feature before rendering, some slaves don't take part of the render until it's almost finished... (invisible during Irradiance AND final pass)

    - if I save LC map first on a network path, everything is ok, all slaves appear during Irr generation and final pass

Is it normal ? Why distributing the lightcache accross the slaves is so slow ?

NOTE : there is 8 slaves, 2 recent intel PCs, 6 three years old AMD PCs. The fact is that these are the old ones that don't start rendering. Strange.... but it seems not to be a processing issue cause it works well with saved LightCache.

    Thanks.

    How big is the maxfile?
What version of VRay are you using?

the lightcache wont work in DR... well it works, but all the nodes calculate it individually. So in your case I think your newer faster machines almost finishes the whole render before the slower nodes get through the lightcache.
The IRRmap on the other hand uses all the machines at once, and thats why you dont have this problem when you save the lightcache (all machines start directly with the irrmap)

Thank you very much, I understand now.
So, is there a way to calculate it localy before sending it to slaves, in just one shot ?

Scrub the Timeline to the end, check "dont render final image" on and set both gi engines to LC and, set the mode to fly-through and make sure you save the map. When its done untick "dont render final image", set the first gi engine to irradiance map and in the lc dialog load the saved lc map.

              Thanks, I knew that.

What i'd like is to render a single frame with DR and LightCache without the need to use a cached file, with just one render click.

Nevermind, it's not a big deal to click twice...
              Thank you.
