  • Dome light - HDRI - Backburner doesn´t render - bug?

    Hy there,

don´t know if this is a known issue, couldn´t find anything here in the forum:

I am trying to render a MAX 2009 64bit scene with Vray. In the scene there is a dome light with HDRI-texture for lighting - GI is on too. If I send this scene to the render farm, it doesn´t use the HDRI-texture placed in the dome light?

Does anybody know this bug, is there any workaround for it?

thanks in advance and all the best...

That sounds like the rendernodes can't see the HDRI ?

that seems to be the problem, but other HDRIs, for example in the environment slot from the render settings menu are working. We think, that it´s referring just to the dome light.

      any ideas?

Are you using VRayHDRI or a regular bitmap texture? Also, are you using relative or absolute file paths?

        Best regards,

I am using VRay HDRI with a path looking like this:

Hm, then maybe you can try it with a regular bitmap instead. In the V-Ray log file, do you get any errors or warnings?

            Best regards,

You mean the mapping "bitmap" with choosing HDRI (the MAX HDRI importer)?

Tried this in the network, didn´t work, seams to be the same problem. We think that it´s just not working that any mapping put in the dome light texture is being rendered...

              About the logfile:
Sorry for my ignorance, but I don´t know where I can find the Log-file
where can I read the log-file if I render in a network? Is it on the machine where the manager is running?

              ???

are you using exposure? maybe the multiplier is too low?

                  We don´t use exposure.

If I render on a local machine it´s working, so that can´t be the problem. If I send the job to the network, it´s just rendering without the Texture...

                  ?!?

                    hi lightshape,

we have the same problem here...locally the render is looking ok but on our farm the render is looking different. I´m still working on the problem and figured out that the difference is mainly in the gi bounce, therefore the gi pass is not correct. but only on the farm...local it is fine.

                    best regards

                      Hmmmm,

we usually didn´t have that problem. Right now we set up our scene with vray dome light and this seems to work different.
If we put the map in the Rendersettings menu (GI and a vray HDRI) it´s working.

We tried the workaround tips from Vlado, but this also didn´t work. My opinion is, that the map is just ignored...

any other workarounds, cause deadline is coming closer?!?

hmm ok...for my problem i found a workaround. when i render with brute force for prim. and sec. bounce it seems render correct on the farm. i dont know what the problem is exactly but for now it is working like this. but it would be nice if it would working also with Irr.map for the primary bounce.

do you try to copy the map on the render machines and use a local path just for the hdri map.? maybe it is working!

                        regards

I'll probably get some more "..."'s heh, but, it's not set to use a local saved irradience map is it?

                            No more "..."

No, there´s no saved irradiance map. It seems that while sending the job to a renderfarm, the Map in the dome light is just not being recognized, and passed...

                            damn...
