Can't upgrade vray 1.50 SP3 to vray 1.50 SP4a

We've successfully upgraded 1 client from SP3 to SP4 then SP4a. Our main rendering server however is not cooperating. We're using 3ds Max 2009 11.0 Sp1 Edu version on a 64-bit Server 2003 SP2 machine, fully updated. The update for SP4 and SP4a seem to install fine but when we check the Vray version in 3ds it still indicates version SP3. We've installed vray both as client and a license server but with the same result for both. Any ideas? Is it possible that the update is complete but the registry just isn't reflecting it? Is there a way to tell?

V-Ray does not store anything in the registry except some uninstall information. If you check the date of the file [maxroot]\plugins\vrender2009.dlr, what is it?

The date of the vrender2009.dlr file is March 30,2009,8:06:16AM.
The version is 1.50.3.7273
