  • VRay Displacement Modifier and Object Scale

VRay Displacement Modifier and Object Scale don't play nicely in the latest Service Pack.
Only if the object is at 100% scale you get the correct displacement amount. If the object is scaled (in my demo case 300% of its original size) the displacement doesn't scale according to the object scale. I attached the scene file as well

    kind regards,
    Anselm

will reseting the xform fix the issue?

      Hi!

As far as i understand, displacement scale is always in absolute units, so when you displace 1 unit it's gonna be 1 unit no matter what object scale lies underneath. So maybe a checkbox like "multiply by object scale" would be the most appropriate thing?

      Best Regards,
      Michael

P.S.: Are you sure it's only like this since the latest service pack?

i think it always was there the multiplier checkbox would be a good solution!

Why not just put an X-form on it & convert back to mesh???
This should solve it straight away.
This will also prevent this and MANY MANY other issues [such UV mapping, textures, etc] in max/vray from ever happening.

Reset X-form is one of the BEST tools in max as many issues in max are caused by scaling of objects.
Everything in max/Vray will be faster as well by not having to scale the object everytime it looks at it's geometry.

          Hope this helps

Well, the point about the initial post ist, that after scaling the object, the absolute amount of displacement stays the same and does not scale with the object scale. Vray displacement behaves as if you already had applied a reset xform, so it's not a solution to the problem.

            I absolutely agree to that
