Most likely its a RAM related issue. Please provide, Scene info : Poly's, and Computer Specs/ amount of Ram especially.
Can also be corrupt object it has happened to me before were i have to merge a series of objects ( one by one or in groups to narrow down ) to a new file to see most likely which one was causing the problem.
It looks like you are using the 32-bit version of 3ds Max; you can try using the 64-bit version. Otherwise, you can render to a .vrimg file and turn off the "Render to memory frame buffer" option, so that the file is written directly to disk. After the rendering, you can either open the .vrimg file directly in 3ds Max (File > View image...) or use the vrimg2exr converter to make an exr file out of it.
