  • Vray Dirt map and Projection texture baking

I just started doing baking high detail models onto low res ones. One of the things I was hoping to do was use the vray dirt map as an ao pass. It almost works. Except for wherever the high detail geometry sits underneath the low detail. It renders black. I've tried excluding it in the dirt map, I've tried setting it not visible to camera, even not receive shadows. Still the same. Is there a proper way to get this to work? The only other way to get an ao pass that I can think of is to use the skylight...and that takes forever. I'd much rather use vray's method.

Did you turn on the "work with transparency" option of VRayDirt?

Okay I tried that checkbox. It by itself did not work. However if I also unchecked cast shadows on the low detail model no more black areas. However a new problem cropped up. It only looks as though some of the polygons are being used for the ao now. I can see distinct shapes of missing polygons in the ao shading.

Can you get me a simple example for this to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that we can investigate it here?

        Best regards,
