Exporting Models which have VrayMats

I quite often upload models i have built to 3D marketplaces such as Turbosquid though I always seem to hit a snag.

Basically to get more sales you really need to upload as much formats of your product as possible but i cant seem to export any formats that seem to work when I've used vray materials on my models. Some people have told me the only way to get it to work is bacially to use standard materials rather than vray. Is this indeed the case or is there a way to export as .obj and .3ds despite having used the vray materials?
