  • 3DS Max 2011 crash when selecting Vray as renderer?

I've just updated to 3DS Max 2011 and the latest Vray.
I'm having a problem where when I select Vray as the default renderer, 3DS Max crashes.

I had no problems with 3DS Max 2010 and the previous version of Vray, and did a complete uninstall and reinstall of Vray numerous times to try to fix the issue.

    Has anyone got any ideas?

Hmm, the cameras etc seem to work fine, it just crashes when I try to open the render settings dialogue.

This happened to me when i had incorrectly setup a VPN, Max would freeze at the dialogue because it couldn't find the license through VPN. Try making sure your licensing scheme is all setup correctly and running.

Are you sure your license settings are correct? (Although it shouldn't crash even if they are wrong, at least here it doesn't).

          I got it.

When I updated, Windows was doing it's usual blocking thing for network access for the new version of Vray on the renderfarm manager/licence server (without giving me a popup). When I allowed the new version in the firewall settings, it all works now.

          Thanks for the help.
