  • Another failed Spawner - but different to other threads

    Hi.

I downloaded and sucessfully installed my updates for 3ds Max 2011 + V-Ray 1.50 Service Pack 4a for 3ds Max. They all worked fine on my workstation, server (license server) and a number of render nodes. I then uninstalled it all to install the 3ds Max Design 2011 version + V-Ray 1.50 Service Pack 4a for 3ds Max. Again it all works fine except for one particular DR node. This DR node pc is running Windows XP 32 bit with 4GB Ram (+3GB Switch) and the OS is fully up to date. This pc was working fine as a DR node with my previous 3ds Max 2011 installation but now it cannot fully load 3dsmax.exe from the spawner. A screen capture of the task manager is attached to show that the processor stays at 50% and never loads any more than about 38,000K of the 3dsmax.exe file. If I end the 3dsmax.exe task manually and let it reload it loads to about 357,000K (all the program loads I guess) and then restarts and again stops at about 38,000K and goes no further.

I've searched previous threads but found nothing exactly the same as my problem. I found references to Vlado posting a new vrayspawner.xml file but I cannot actually find Vlado's post with this file. Also, vrayspawner.xml does not seem to exist on any of my workstations anyway!!!

I've uninstalled 3ds Max and Vray a number of times and cleaned the OS up completely but the problems still exists.

Any advice would be very much appreciated. Any suggestions Vlado?

    Thanks in advance.

When Vray Spawner starts and stops, can be related to that....

Thanks but windows firewall is off. I uninstalled everything again and reinstalled Max alone, without Vray, and Max will still not run itself so its is not a Vary problem. I'll have to double check to make sure all min. requirements are met for Max, which they were onley last week.

      Thanks again.

ive got the same problem on a new machine
I actually had max on its own working but dr spawner not working, now i've broken both :P

interestingly max 2010 and 2011 both give the same "3ds max application has stopped working" error

i noticed that it was crashing when loading 'mentalray.dlz' so i moved that file so it cannot be loaded and now max has loaded fine.

still need to test if DR works... but backburner is working right now, im watching her render right now

Ok weird. How many cores do you have in that machine? There was a known bug that caused 3ds Max to not load on machines with more than 16 cores, which was supposed to be fixed at some point.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

Hi Three D, hope you don't mind I hijack your thread for our question. :P

We have weird problem here. After installing all the service packs of 3dsmax 2009, spawner can't open. It keeps giving the "the program has stopped working". Before service packs were installed it works fine.

              Our system is:
              1) Windows 7 64bit
              2) 3dsmax 2009 w/ all service pack installed
              3) Vray 1.5 sp4a

              Any idea?

24 threads, but only 12 real cores.

The machine has just completed a 8hr render so, all might be well. But it did just reboot itself a few times previously for no apparent reason mid render

Just ran a mem test and all was well after 4 passes.. so hopefully all the kinks work themselves out.

tescsun: We found the newest service pack did the same thing, so we only installed the hot fix for September not the one that came out this year.
The issues seem to have nothing to do with vray, crashes still occured before vray was installed.

hey werticus, thanks but seems it is still not working. Tried to re-installed vray but to no avail. I try again later.

If the machine reboots during rendering, it is most likely a hardware problem (overheating or bad RAM).

                    Best regards,

No; it may reboot for any of the reasons above. If the machine is overclocked, you can try to reduce the frequency. You can also try installing a CPU temperature monitoring program and run a RAM checker. There are many tools available for these things, I can't recommend anything myself as I haven't used.

                        Best regards,

Thanks but I mean the spawner can't start with error message "3dsmax has stopped working..." with 3dsmax2009 + vray 1.5sp4a + win7 64bit. My mistake mislead you to my question, sorry. I tried uninstalled the latest service pack suggested by ThreeD, but it seems still doesn't work unless I uninstall all including Service Pack 1. Any idea?
