  • Crashing

I'm running Max 2009 SP1, Vray 1.5SP5 & Vray RT the latest version, Max is crashing a whole lot and it was very stable before I upgraded to the latest SP. Is anyone else noticing more crashes?

Does it crash in a particular situation, or just in general? If you install the previous builds, does this fix the issue?

I think it has something to do with navigating in the scene, when I go to orbit around the model it happens but not all of the time. While using VrayRT it seems to do it when I move the camera while RT is running. I've tried merging the scene file into a new scene but it hasn't made any difference, it's strange because it seems to happen randomly.

Didn't you have the same V-Ray RT version before? (The official one on the site is still V-Ray RT 1.5 SP1a.)

Previous to this upgrade I was using SP3a and I did use RT in a limited fashion but I never had crashing problems.

Ok then; if you wish you can email me to vlado_nk@yahoo.com and I'll get you links to V-Ray RT SP2; hopefully it will solve this issue.

            Best regards,

Ok I've sent the e-mail,and I'm sure now that it's happening when I try to pan, zoom, or rotate.

Please see the advice about the crash dumps in my reply to that post - it will be very helpful if you can get me several of these.

                  Best regards,

I did install the updated version of RT, I've had one unexplained crash today and it was most certanley the result of me trying to zoom into a viewport so I don't know if we're having the same problem.

Was it a camera viewport with a VRayPhysicalCamera? Were there any VRayLights in the viewport? Does it go away if you switch to OpenGL?

                      Best regards,

It was a right viewport that I was zooming into, I selected zoom and drew a box around the object when Max locked up and crashed. The only light was a Vray sun and there were several physical cameras in the scene, I haven't tried OpenGL yet.

Ok that helps a bit, thanks for the info! If you can try OpenGL and let me know how that goes, it would be great. But at least I know now where to look.

Sorry I have one more question: was the V-Ray VFB open at the time of crash (when you dragged in the viewport)?

                            Best regards,
                            Vlado

No and it happens whether RT is active or not.
