  • cant start max 2011 with sp5

After installing vray sp5 at work I´ve got the dll errors while starting max 2011 !
The first error is " vrender2011.dlr failed to initialize" an then I got several dlo issues...the models could not be found.

Uninstalling and new installing vray and max was no solution and the Vray plugins line in the plugin.ini is the last one.

There are two plugin.ini files; one is in the root folder of 3ds Max, the other is in your local user settings (c:\users\... on Windows Vista/7 and c:\documents and settings\... on Windows XP); make sure the "Additional V-Ray plugins" folder is the last one in all of them.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

maybe I have to copy them over into the other ini?

        Ok, then; what happens if you remove the line that says ;=;

Hm, the only thing that I can think of, is to uninstall V-Ray, make sure all relevant files are deleted (vray2011.dll, vrender2011.dlr, the vrayplugins folder), and then re-install it - just in case something has remained from another build.

            Best regards,

I´ve reinstalled max and vray now! After that I deletet the files left in de root folder completely and deleted all the vray files. Then I´ve reinstalled everything but i still geht the damn errors!
Hm...my workmate means that maybe there are some Visual C++ files missing, for working with the dlo files. But I´ve installed C++ 2005,08,10,
And normally they are installed with max the first time ! So this may may be a reason ?

They are installed with 3ds Max, yes. Which version of V-Ray did you have before?

We used 3ds max 2010 with sp4a...now 3ds max 2010 with sp5 and no problems.
But when I want to change to 3ds max 2011 on my workstation I geht this errors with the sp5.
Before the release I used the sp4a (max2010) for a short time with max2011 without the errors!
But it would be great to have the new features of sp5 inside 3ds max 2011.

Ok then; can you try the following:

                    1) rename the [maxroot]\plugins\vrayplugins folder to something else
                    2) make sure you have vray2011.dll and libmmd.dll in your 3ds Max root folder (and that they are the ones from the V-Ray installation)
                    3) make sure that vrender2011.dlr is in the [maxroot]\plugins folder
                    4) rename the plugin.ini file in the local user folder to plugin.ini.off
                    5) remove the ;=; line in the plugin.ini from the 3ds Max root folder

If that still does not work, please email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com and we'll see what else can be done.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado

                      I'm having these problems now...

Did everything above, and it nearly worked - but when max started it said it couldnt load the vray sky plugin. So it would work, but i've got no vray sky...
Before then nothing to do with vray would load.

                      Any more ideas?

edit: NEVERMIND! manually removed all vray files and did another re-install, started working. Odd, but whatever.
