  • DR fails on net render since SP5

I don't know if this is a SP5 problem or a windows update (as usual) problem. It started about the time we installed SP5.

Locally DR works fine, but if I submit the job to backburner - none of the DR spawners pick up. This has been happening on models, but sometimes other computers make it work. I thought it was windows updates on the server, so we rolled those back, and it didn't make a difference.

Anyone else having this problem? Driving me crazy.

Yes, it was reported a while back; looking into it...

Thanks. So we should go back to SP4?

I added to 3ds Max on the remote machine (that use backburner) the ip of the remote farms, then I closed Max and launched from the workstation the backburner jobs, Everything worked ok.

Vlado, any news or update to fix this? We have a lot of scenes this week to render and i would like to use BB for it so i dont have to babysit the renderings all night. If nothing helps we swtich back to sp4...grrr.

You can use the vray_dr.cfg file as before when the option was not present (and make sure it is off); otherwise this is fixed already I will be able to get you a fixed build if you email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com, just not sure when exactly.

              Best regards,

Any solution to this already? Just updated all machines to sp5 but no more dr with backburner since then. Locally started dr jobs run without problems.

Is the only solution at this time to switch back to sp4?

I just tested a little bit: when I start the job from that machine that is running the backburner server and manager it does work with all dr slaves. When I start the job from any diffrent machine it doesn't incorporate the slaves. The only problems are that I will have to timeout the bb server until all jobs are sent because otherwise it will start rendering while I'm still sending the jobs and the bigger problem is that I don't have a spare max license that I could run on that extra machine.

Any chance to get that fixed somehow?

Vlado, where do I find the vray_dr.cfg and what setting do I have to change?

                Thanks in advance!

                Best,
                fritz

Just in case anyone else expected this behavior as well:

There's a workaround that Vlado posted in this thread:
                  http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...ht=vray_dr.cfg

                  That's what I did:
                  - this step is optional and is only required if your workstation is not running the bb server/manager - while doing that you can check if all servers are listed in the vray_dr.cfg
copy the vray_dr.cfg from your workstation to the machine that's running the bb server/manager (in my case it was located in: c:\documents and settings\user\autodesk\3dsmax\2009 - 64bit\enu\plugcfg\)
                  - make sure when submitting a scene to bb that the "Save hosts with scene" option is disabled

and there you go: bb and dr work again with SP5

                  best,
                  fritz
