  • Setting up Distributed Rendering

    Hi there,

I've been using vray for some time though just on one computer but ive decided its about time i used the other computers in the office to help out. I've been through a tutorial tp set it all up but getting nowhere.

So basically ive installed Max and Vray on the slave, I've chanegd the name of the computer in the vray licence options, then i run the vray spawner and it opens a minimised max called vray dummy or something to that effect. From what ive read on other places, that all sounds about right.

Then on my main computer i tick Distributed Rendering, then in the settings i put in the ip address of the slave, which i've done.

But when i render all i ever see are buckets from my main computer. Problem is though i never get an error or anything, it just renders with the 8 buckets from my normal computer.

Can anyone maybe give me some guidance as to what i must be doing wrong.

    Thanks

has the slave you are trying to use for DR rendered anything through backburner?

ok, you might want to run the backburner manager on the slave (temporarily) as it sets up a few networking things which helps to get DR working smoothly.

          Tried that but no joy.

Would the fact that my main pc is 64x and all others are 32x have anything to do with why it wont work?

make sure your slave machine can see the vray license server. You need to put the serverIP address in the "change vray license setting" on the slave machine, you can do this by going to the vray / licensing /administration part of the chaos program folder in the start menu.
Make sure you type it in correctly (I didn't) or your slave will get a error:10060 (could not obtain a license).

I put in the ip address for the licence info, as previously I only had the computer name in there, but it seems to work now. Though it may have worked previously but from the looks of it, I expected the buckets to work right away, and I only had a small resolution example. When i increased the resolution, taking the render longer, the extra buckets kicked in after a bit of a delay. So it could have been the example i was using was finishing before the buckets kicked in.

The only problem now is to deal with missing textures but i expected that and i beleive i know how to fix it.

              Thanks for your help.
