  • 3D Text Renders Weird

This renders bad from farther away, but good close up. Any idea why?

Looks like a GI problem as opposed to a texture problem.
Try a quick version using only brute force to see if it's working better.......if it does then you know it's GI & not textures

    Cheers

Thank you very much. Worked great with Brute Force for the Primary bounce alone and even better when I added Light cache in the Secondary bounces, but I need to use Irradiance map for Primary. So if it's GI, what setting can I change to use it?

Use the Detail Enhancement option in the irradiance map settings. This option forces the GI to use Brute force for small details, whilst using irradiance for the rest.
You may need to adjust the scale to something that is appropriate to your scene/needs.

        Cheers

You can also turn off the "Use irradiance map" option for the text material; in that case, it will use brute force just on that object.

I increased the Radius from 40 to 1000 and it seemed to clean it up a lot, not perfect, but much better. Does that jump seem crazy? I'll do a full test render to see how much time is increased. Anyway, thanks a lot. For me, trying to understand these VRAY settings is like trying to understand chemistry.

For many things, if one wants speed, they have to pay with extra complexity... Otherwise, just brute force everything and things are simple again

Wow, bingo! That works even better; it does take a bit longer though, but that's no problem. I will remember that I can use brute force on one object at a time if needed. Thanks!
