  • Not 100% full throttle processors!

    INCREDIBLE BUT TRUE!

I remember that Vray when I launched animations or DR renderings used before all processors at 100% of their performance, in the task manager I saw the 8 bars at the maximum height.
Now on the machine where I have installed 16Gb all processors runs at 100% speed but on the other machines that have only 8Gb runs at 80-90%
The workstation with 16Gb has Vista Ultimate 64 the other 6 farms pc use Windows XP 64

    What's wrong in Vray now???

    Nothing wrong with Vray probably.

If the 16Gb machine renders at 100% then it might be that a total of more than 8Gb memory is used when rendering. Windows has to swap part of it's memory to the harddisk on the 8Gb machines then, and this is slow.

But if the total of used memory in the windows task manager stays well below the 8Gb on the 8Gb machines, then something might be wrong.

      it was the BITMAP PAGER!!!...

if you don't disable it the render will slow down on 8Gb machines (with the same processors) !
      Example
      rendertime
      on dual 3Ghz with 16Gb = 24 minutes
      on dual 3Ghz with 8Gb = 34 minutes (!!!!)

the scene has few objects and takes 2,5Gb on each farm...

      Max 2010 Vray 1.5Sp5

          Updated:

test of 3d Backburner animation, 1280x720 pixels (simple scene) - Max 2010 + Vray 1.5Sp5

processors, ram, render time bitmap pager on, render time bitmap pager off
          dual 3.2Ghz, 8Gb, 39:33, 23:11
          dual 2.6Ghz, 8Gb, 41:24, 26:30
          dual 3.0Ghz, 16Gb, 26:09, 23:53

          same frame...

          Please Vlado,

add a message into the Vray installer to disable the bitmap pager.

          Thanks.

          Best regards.

No way, the bitmap pager is a good thing. You just need to tune it a little bit from the default settings to get it to work properly
