  • 3DMax2010 plus VRay Slow Network !

Does anybody know why the 3DMax does not use 100% of the power network to open a heavy file? I have files larger than 800MB that takes five minutes to open, using only 25% of the speed available, observed by the Task Manage

Because the Bottleneck is IO/your network and not your CPU.

Not what it seems, for if it was a bottleneck, we would have 100% utilization of the network, right?

Not necessarily. There might be multiple bottlenecks. And ANY of them should be 100%. Surely not the one on your machine tho. I'd expect the central fileservers IO or networkload to be high. Might also be a switch or fw or whatever is the real bottleneck.

Easiest way to test if it is your network bandwidth is to copy that huge file to your local hard drive and try to open the file from there. This will remove the network variable to see if it opens any faster. If it does, then you have a bottle neck somewhere in your network backbone.
