  • Extreme Sploches

Hello I have made a sequence and as many of us - I ve got the sploche problem. What you see is just a beginning of the scene, it is not possible for me to use it in a compositing program because of timing issues.
My 2 questions are: how to get rid of these sploches which are coming up after the car lights switches on. The bulbs and the head light glas are not casting shadows and they have no GI. IR is set to animation.

Did anybody have any idea. The other question is, why is the black plastic of the head light not fully lighted, it should look more bright as it is now.

I use the latest version of vray in 3ds max 2011

    thanks for advice

Try to turn off the reflective caustics in the global illumination rollout.

These splotches sometimes happen with the irradiance map when you have a small vray light with a very high multiplier - which is something you probably have in the head lights.

maybe your bulbs have no gi, but it seems there are lights hitting the floor infront of the car, I would speculate that the bounced light from that is causing the splotches

Try generating the irradiance map with a different tonemapper - Reinhard. Then render out normally with whatever tonemapper you are using.

You can also try to turn on "check sample visibility" option in Irradiance map rollout.

              Nice animation!
              What settings/GI are you using?
Here is some info on splotches : http://www.metinseven.com/article_vray_splotches.htm
Have you tried rendering out some frames with headlights turned off? They could be causing the issue. If so, i'm not sure what the solution would be. Higher Subdivisions on those lights maybe? or could be uvw mapping issue?
Good luck. Hope it can get resolved easily.

Hello thanks for the help...I have tried nearly everything. Also if I hide the bulbs and the headlight galsses the splotches are still visible. The sploches are from the ies lights and they are made by the irradience map, regardless of which settings I use.
@ snivlem: what should tonemapping change here?

I will continue testing ... and go through all points @ http://www.metinseven.com/article_vray_splotches.htm

                best regards

Any bright lights/materials? Maybe a material in the tunnel??

I cleaned out a scene of mine recently because a light mat was too bright.
