  • Vray 2.0 problem when rendering high-res .vrimg

    Hi,
we are working with the Vray beta (1) for about a week now and there seems to be a bug regarding the .vrimg file when rendering high resolution images (about 4000x3000).
The vrimg file only has about 180mb instead of ~600mb (Sp5, same resolution) and when we extract the exr image, only half of the content seems to be stored within the file. If we lower the resolution to about 1000px it´s working fine.

I attached a sample to clearify our problem. Hope this can be reproduced and will be fixed for the 2.0 final.

Hm, I can't reproduce this here. Are there any render elements in the file? Also, are you using the vrimg2exr tool from the V-Ray 2.0 installation?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Hi Vlado,

there were also VrayDepth, multimatte, extraTex (AO) and alpha active as render elements and they also had the black stripes...

We could just reproduce the bug with a simple scene. I will upload a package with the max file, vrimg and extracted image within a few minutes so you can have a closer look.

      regards,
      Marco

Still can't reproduce that with Beta 3; renders fine here. The file is smaller than the SP5 version as .vrimg files now have zlib compression, so the size difference is normal. Are you sure you are using the vrimg2exr tool from the V-Ray 2.0 installation? I will also try Beta 1, just in case.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

Nevermind; I could reproduce the issue. It only happens if you use the -channel flag for vrimg2exr. The .vrimg file itself contains all the correct data, just the converter has this issue. Will fix it for the release. Thanks for the pointer!

Also, for the time being you can avoid the issue if you specify a larger conversion buffer for vrimg2exr, for example
                Code:
                -bufsize 300
                Best regards,

Thanks Vlado for the hint, I managed to extract a perfect Color.exr, but how can i extract the passes without using the channel flag?

EDIT: Changing the bufsize did the trick. Just modified the shimakaze bat and hope we can work with that until we get a fixed vrimg2exr.

The render looks fine to me. We are spying on the house across the yard through the shutters right?
