  • Car paint bug - HDR reflection filtering

    Very simple setup, just vray light in full dome mode with HDRI map, no GI.






    Shader 1 : vray shader with fresnel reflection, looks ok

    Shader 2 : vray carpaint shader, black with no flakes. bad reflections


    See the reduction in reflection filtering, resolution or what ever caused this.? Is this bug, or is car paint using some kind of approximation.?

        Maybe you`ve changed the surface geometry or camera angle a bit .I don`t believe this is fixable with some v-ray settings in max. This bug appears when the reflected texture becomes overstretched over the surface, more then 1:1. you will never see it on sphere if you test it.

          Not sure humh, I think I either changed from VrayHDRI to Bitmap, or from 8 atmosphere map to Vray Light Dome... Cant remember which one and if it even is this...

            We have reproduced the issue. The problem appears when the objects reflecting the HDR map are overstretched. The bug is reported to our developers.

              Can you try this and see if it helps: select the dome light, and in the MaxScript listener type
              Code:
              $.dome_visibleOriginal=2
              Alternatively, increase the "Resolution" parameter for the dome light texture.

                you may also solve this issue by making the dome light invisible to reflection/specular and put your hdr into the reflection override of the render globals.

                      My work around it

                      Dome - Untick visible in reflection
                      F10 - Seleft Vray ovveride reflection - stick instance of dome texture her.
                      Done.

                          Has this been fixed? Is there a known issue here? I have exaclty this problem and I would really appreciate a fix....
                          resolution spinner in the light maxes out at 2048...
