  • geometry error

    Hi,

I'm experiencing a strange problem with VRay 2.00.02, Max 9 64 bit. After a while rendering, VRay seems to go bugged, creating artifacts in the geometry. These problems is even visible in the Material Editor (see attached screenshot)

Once bugged, the only way to fix it is to restart Max. Unfortunately, the problem is fully random so i cannot reproduce it.

I'm not sure if it's a problem with one the plugins that we are developing or a VRay bug. Anyone have experienced an issue as this ?

    Hi Carlos,

(very happy Forest Pro user here but that's just as a side note )

I'm not using VRay 2 myself (yet) so my experience with v2 is somewhat limited but I have done work for production companies that use VRay 2 and I can't say that I have run into that issue. They are using Max 2011 x64 though, so that might also make a difference.

I did however run into a problem where there were lights and cameras in a scene which was setup with VRay 1.5 and the scene was later on used in VRay 2. That caused some complications in saving and rendering the scene (very long delays before starting to render). Deleting the VRay lights and cameras, restarting Max and recreating the lights and cameras solved the issues. The scene also looked different in terms of lighting after recreating them. It only happened once so not sure what the reason was but it may also affect you scene? That is, if you have created the scene when you were still using VRay 1.5?

Not sure if this helps in any way but you never know

No, the scene was created with VRay 2.0. The problem is different here, it's not a light issue, but the whole geometry is messed.

By some reason VRay fails to render the geometry, but i don't know if the problem was caused by my plugin or by some Vray random bug. The object in the screenshot is generated by the plugin (a vray instance, same technique than Forest... nothing special), but why the sphere in the Material Editor is wrong as well ?

      Thanks anyway,

It almost looks like a memory corruption issue... Not one of the easiest things to debug, unfortunately.

        Best regards,
        Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

Yes, but it would be triggered by my own implementation of StaticMeshInterfacePrimitive. I could reproduce a similar issue rendering with my plugin VRay proxies created in 2.0, while the proxies of VRay 1.5 work fine.

Well, this is a very technical issue... Vlado, i just sent you an e-mail about this.
