  • Vray not using all cores when calculating iradience map

    Hi!

I have a quite complex scene with moving objects so I use the animation prepass to calculate an iradience map, the problem is that Vray seems to use only one core. I have a 6core amd with 8gig ram.. any ideas?
    Thanks!
    regards
    /Tobias

Is there any dynamic geometry involved (displacement, fur, proxies etc)?

Yes I have displacement in the scene, is this not multithtread (yet)?

What is your dynamic memory limit set to in the V-Ray settings?

While raytracing of the displacement is fully multithreaded, the generation of the raytraced geometry is not. Further on, the displacement is dynamic geometry, which means that V-Ray may create/destroy the geometry as needed during the rendering in order to fit in the specified memory limit. If this limit is too low, this constant creation/destruction will degrade performance.

I increased the dynamic memory limit to 4 gig. and now it works perfect again Thanks!!

i am send lots of jobs with displacement and sometimes the jobs have bad performance
my 2 cpu systems use 1 core only while a single cpu system use all cores ?!
is there a logic to estemate the best setup for memory if it comes to displacement on X CPU systems ?
how to know in advacne the best size for dynamic memory limit ?

Well, for V-Ray 2.0 you can just set the memory limit to 0 and V-Ray will use as much memory as needed without restriction. Otherwise, you can do a test render and take a look at how much free RAM you have, then adjust the dynamic memory limit accordingly.
