  • Low threads/core activity with a specific material

    Hello,

I'm having the problem described in this post
    http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...hlight=threads

    But only with one material.
I tried the solution vlado gave in that post but current.system_numThreads was 0 already.

I'm leaving a scene with the material and an image showing the task manager.

    Its Max 2011 vray 2
Something strange: when I render with DR the rest of the computers (older than my workstation) are rendering seemingly at full capacity.
I discovered that taking the blur value from 0.01 back to default 1 seems to solve the problem. I do need to remove the blur though.

    Thanks in advance,
    G.

If it's related to the Blur value, then try turning off the 3ds Max Bitmap pager...

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Yes! Thank you so much.

In case anyone is interested, Max 2011 doesn't have the bitmap pager option in preferences anymore. The Maxscript line is IBitmapPager.enabled = false

it's in the render setup window, "bitmap performance and memory options". should be disabled by default though.

Oh, ok. I wrote that after reading this in the autodesk website. Sorry.

"You would like to improve rendering performance by disabling the Bitmap Pager, however the Bitmap Pager is not available in the 3ds Max user interface.
The Bitmap Pager UI has been completely removed from the Customize > Preferences > Render tab and is now controllable only through MAXScript. The IBitmapPager Core Interface exposes settings related to the Bitmap Pager which has been extended to support an Automatic Limit Mode."

It was indeed removed for 3ds Max 2010, but after much complaints, they put it back in 3ds Max 2011, but in a different place

            Best regards,
            Vlado

Thanks for solving this issue! I had the same problem on our dual quads (CPU load 25 % ) while the dual duo's used the full capacity. Time to render the animation for the weekend
