  • DR and Displace mod

Hello, perhaps this is known, but it was new to me the other day.
I am just posting this in order to save others from troubleshooting the crap out of their DR and Max setup in this instance.
When I add a displacement modifier to a plane, the DR returns strange buckets. The problem goes away when turning off the modifier or removing it from the stack.
No big deal, but maybe this will save others that run into this some time...

    Could you elaborate a little?
I don't remember getting this problem before (both on vray 1.5 and vray 2.0)
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

@DVD3D - I have a plane object for the ground. It has a standard displace modifier on it and DR returns funky buckets (day test image.)
I removed it and replaced it with a standard noise modifier and the render comes out as expected (evening test image.)

What kind of map did you use for displacement?

        Best regards,
        Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

It is in the "bitmap" slot in the displacement rollout.
The map itself is 480x640, 72 dpi, RGB JPG...nothing special...

standard displace or vray displace? why would you use standard? To see the result in the view port i suppose?

Well, yes, to see it in viewport. I also remembering someone did that in a tutorial and it seemed good. I don't usually do this, but was just testing a rock placing script
and ended up with this oddness...Again, I don't really care as this is not in my usual work flow.
