  • DRSpawner won't even start

I am new to V-Ray and distributed rendering. I am trying to set it up for the first time. I have followed the instructions step by step for setting up my two computers but I can't even get Spawner to run. I have the latest V-Ray build, 2.00.02, and am using 3ds Max 2011. When I try to launch Spawner, absolutely nothing happens. I have tried reinstalling V-Ray. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Have you tried doing a back burner test first? workstaiton runs monitor / manager, then send a job to every Slave machine, once they do the link cancel it all. Then add your slaves in the DR settings and try again

Did you install max on both computers? If not, then you need to.
See my tutorial here and make sure you've done everything: http://vray.info/tutorials/vray_dist...nd_backburner/

in the past mental ray has caused crashes on machine with more than a certain number of cores... though i think that would be fixed in 2011... at one stage we had to delete the mental ray plugin to get it to load.

I have followed the tutorial step by step. I still can't get DR to work, but I'm getting closer with backburner. I can get both of my computers to connect to the manager and monitor for some time. If I try to run the manager on my Laptop (MainUser), then my desktop (Slave1) can't connect and I get this message:

WRN Attempt to register busy server slave1
INF Cannot handle registration from Slave1. Will try again later.

If I try to run manager on my desktop (Slave1), then my laptop connects fine, but after a minute or so it loses the connection and it says:

ERR Server Laptop-PC is not responding

            Any ideas on what's happening?

Try disconnecting from the internet, disabling the rules for max and backburning on your firewalls, and turning off your firewalls on both machines to see if maybe it's blocking the ports or something else in that neighborhood. If it works without the firewall, you know what the problem is. If not, well, you know what it isn't.

Used to be (maybe still) that both machines needed the same service packs installed for this as well. Windows updates/security patches as well. Make sure max is using same service packs and updates also.

I finally got them to connect to each other. Now when it tries to run the render on Slave1, i'm getting errors.

ERR Task error: Missing dll: Vrender2011.dlr - VRayMtl; missing dll: vray color2011.dlt.....etc
